This Sunday, we will start off with Bhajans starting at 10:00 AM , following with “21 Gayatri Chanting” as part of the ongoing 1008 Day Sadhana Program. Afterwards we are happy to have Dr. Stanley Westschler M.D. join us and share his experiences. A short bio about Dr. Stan, as he is no stranger to sai fraternity here in Region 2.
Journey to Sai:
Dr. Stan’s journey to Sai began 2 decades ago. In 1999, he received the unexpected “bad news” that he had terminal cancer and was not destined to survive. Along with his devoted wife, Jayne, who was the catalyst for what would eventually result in a major transformative process, they embarked on a long journey which could only be orchestrated by Swami towards surviving and thriving. Realizing the allopathic model didn’t hold the answers for his healing or recovery, Stan became boarded in Holistic Medicine in addition to incorporating Swami’s teachings concerning “Sai -Medicine” into his every day life.
He had a vision at the beginning of this new chapter in his life, that one day he would devote his time to the service of helping cancer patients find a new path to healing as defined in the holistic model. Now, by embracing and incorporating Swami’s teachings, the backbone for retreats for cancer patients was conceived and finally came to fruition. Baba’s adage, “ Expect the Unexpected” was experienced in miraculous ways by some of the attendees following the retreats. as well as throughout the Wetschler’s new life with Sai.
Stan, a 1969 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine retired from a very active internal medicine practice in the Pittsburgh area in 2001. He served as medical director for the largest hospital based home care agency in the country. president of the medical staff at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, as well as a member of several hospital medical executive committees. In retirement, he served as the medical director of the Dean Ornish Heart Reversal Program in Pittsburgh and was quite active as a board member for a nationally recognized hospice. In 2016, Jayne and Stan relocated to the greater Asheville area, where he is the current president of the Asheville Group. He is co-founder of the “Eliada Home Project:”chosen for the “Adopt a Community “ Initiative several years ago. He has been quite active in several Region 3 forums on a variety of topics.
At his retirement ceremony, a colleague remarked “ Stan is known for his quick wit” and “his ability to make patients feel better was as important as any medication”.
